the best race car track ever



This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths
Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then; make a table that was able to balance MnMs for the team. We were much better at the second challenge because …the chair was harder because it had strong things when mams are small and light.

In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.  my work

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My team made this…we made a race car track we made out of cardboard,duct tape,popsicle stick


Reflection

My highlight from this PBL was…we made $34 lots of people have people came to are stand and we had music playing in the background it work lot’s of fun but one lane broke

Next time I would  Do less hot glue on the track and the cars and the track will work better

my pbl

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;
What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?


First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. stories Culture is
……when family come together and celebrate special occasions
Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage
. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.
In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated
on Maori legends. I read….Maui and the sun  I have written my own legend called/I retold the legend of
……..I retold Maui and the sun in my own words.


We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script,
some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music
and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.





Reflection:
For our production I contributed by...by painting the art background.


I think the show might impact on others by...the loud singing we do.


What I learned about working with others was..I learned to say my ideas out loud.

Reading Evidence

In reading I have been wondering….


How can I deepen my understanding of what I have read
through applying my own ideas to the story.


I read the story….. Maui slowed the sun


It was about…..one day Maui and his brother got some flax and
make them into ropes because there were going go to the sun
to slow it  because people was
Saying the days go to quick so they got the flax and went to the
sun and as the sun got up Maui got his jawbone and hit the sun
until the sun got tired and then
Sun got slower so the days were longer


We then had to create a contraption to help Maui slowed the sun


This was my idea….



I chose to do this because…. I did it because machines are strong and that will hold the sun

what is culture

culture for me and my family is that we come together in are home town.That is qeenstown we have lots of good food like sweets,chips and  chocolate and we hold hands in a circle and sing songs.But when i say family but i mean 99% 1% are in Italy working on a bout and then he go to a cafe that we own.

what have we done for witting this week?

This week for witting we have doing apostrophes.A apostrophes is punctuation that makes a word small it takes away letters like I have will =I've. The rules are that in the word it has to be two words made into one word.We are doing speech marks. A start of a speech mark =capital.  Other punctuation goes inside of speech mark.
